This is an Asheville City Park.
Called Carrier Park. It was a short NASCAR track until 1999, now the
slightly banked track is for bicycles and runners. Good for either
morning or evening light, pictured here with evening. There is a bridge
up over making the center handicapped accessible, from which this photo
is taken. Would be pretty easy to get permission from city for this
spot. |

This is the Wedge Brewery, on
nice days, the entire area beyond the orange plastic chain is filled
with drinkers. Good evening light, which is pictured here. Potential
really cool shot if we can get cars up close and light building just
after sunset? |
|
Harvest Records and my crappy
Honda. Morning light shot. |
|
This picture does not really do
the location justice, this was a free grafiti zone until recently, now
the owner has been shamed into enforcing trespassing laws, but will
give permission to use it... the wall is about 8 ft high and very
colorful. Good access for cars, active train tracks to the right |
|
This is the "Dirty Dancing"
hotel at Lake Lure, NC. the street in front could possibly be used.
They have not yet returned my calls. Upside to this is the hotel,
downside is it is public streets, and would be more diffucult to
control traffic. |

this is from Lake James, which
is a State Park. I am waiting to hear back from the Superintendant
about use, it is about 1 hour east of Asheville. I am still searching
for another lake. This one, if the park goes along, which I think they
will... Last of the Mohicans was filmed here would be good to do early
morning, then a short run up to the Parkway, which if it is open
(weather/funding, whatever) could be a nice drive back to Asheville for
a mid-day shoot. I have been to Lake James, but can't find any of my images right now... there is at least 100 miles of shorline road there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_James |
|
This is the original Mast
General Store in Valle Crusis, NC... about 1.5 hour north of Asheville
on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They also have a big store in downtown
Asheville, which was what we discussed on the phone today. I will dig
up a pic of that ASAP. |
|
And of course, we have downtown.
City Hall on right, County on right.... this is evening light |
|
if you wanted a
music/lifestyle/night shot... this was with one hand held speedlight on
stick, more lights would be very cool here. There is plenty of room for
two cars, and have the crowd, which gets thicker mill around them.
Would need security here, there is a scumbag element working each show,
I belive the Orange Peel would cooperate. They have shows Wed and
Thurs, and the crowd should be okay. |
|
This is the downtown Asheville
Mast Store, sorry about the fisheye, only lens I had with me at the
time....this is early morning, we can get the parking people to reserve
us spots in front for a pretty reasonable fee. ugly, but, as we
disucssed...mid-day blah blah |
|
the possible shut down of the
parkway led me to find a place parkway like, and this is it. bearwallow
Mountain south of town... close, a nice drive, lots of views like this,
horse farms, fences, hairpin turns... pardon my ugly old honda, just
there for scale this is evening light, could work good for early
morning too, road is very deserted, we could hire one sheriff deputy
and do car to car here easy |
|
one of the hairpins on the way
up to bearwallow mt.... we have access to a crane if you wanted to get
like right over it this was with a 28, and I think it is the tightest
hairpin around |
|
more from the road up to
bearwallow... evening light... still kind of brown here, should be
greener at shoot time |
|
dunno if you want a church, but
this one is really nice and they seem fine to use it this is an evening
shot |
|
this bridge is over a nice
rushing stream, lots of angles on it... I just liked the trusses, this
is evening, morning would be okay here too |
|
another nice scene along the
road up to bearwallow |
|
a better bridge in the confines
of the Lake James area sunrise... there is a walkway on both sides
allowing you to get at pavement level easily |
|
view from Lake James towards
mts, that is Linville Gorge, the break in two big ranges |
|
boat ramp at Lake James |
|
Marina at Lake James, lots of
road/water shots in this area |
|
Downtown Marion, NC.... very
Mayberryish... some good storefront shots, lots of abandonded stuff
everything is for rent or sale. sad |
|
then up to the heights, Big Lynn
Lodge just off the parkway |
|
one of the cabins at Big Lynn
Lodge |
|
Twin Tunnels area on the parkway |
|
can't guarantee it for our
shoot, but this morning there was this crazy rime ice on the trees on
the north facing slopes |
|
